Your Test

Test Proceedure

The practical test takes about 40 minutes.

It begins with an eyesight examination. You must be able to read the current style of numberplate from a distance of 20 metres. You can wear glasses or contact lenses to do so, but if so then you must keep them on when you are riding.

The examiner will select a parked vehicle probably a little further away than 20 metres and ask you to read the number plate. If you cannot read it, the examiner will measure the distance exactly and ask you to repeat the test. If you still cannot read the numberplate you have failed and the test will go no further.

After successfully completing the eyesight test, you will be asked two safety check questions.

Safety check questions

Candidates are required to answer two questions about motorcycle safety checks. ne of these is a "tell me" question: you will be asked t tel the examiner how you would carry out a proceedure, such as checking the engine oil.

The other is a "show me" question: it requires you to show the examiner how you would carry out a safety check, such as inspecting the indicator lights to make sure they are working. You will not be asked to touch any hot parts of the engine but you may have to turn the ignition on.

The questions you will be asked are shown in the "tell me" "show me" sections.
