Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) All provisional licence holders (ie
those displaying L Plates) must take a Compulsory Basic Training course before
riding a moped or a motorcycle on the road.
The CBT Certificate (DL196) is valid for two years from the date of
issue. Should the certificate expire the Compulsory Basic Training course
must be retaken unless of course you have passed your moped or motorcycle
test.
Theory Test You will have to take a Theory Test before you can book
a Practical Test (L Plate Driving Test). A Theory Test can be booked by ringing
08700 101372 quoting your Credit Card and Driving Licence Number.

The A Practical Test (Restricted licence) (CBT Certificate required by
all riders) The test must be taken on a motorcycle over 120cc but not
more than 125cc and capable of exceeding 62 mph. Provisional license holders
must have passed their Theory test before applying for the Practical Test.
Full car licence holders need to take a Theory test. When the Practical Test
has been passed then you will be restricted for 2 years to a 33 bhp or 25kW
motorcycle. After the 2 years have passed, a full unrestricted licence will
be held automatically. No further tests will be needed.
The Direct Access Test (CBT Certificate required by all riders) The
test must be taken on a motorcycle over 46.6 bhp or 35kW. Provisional license
holders must have passed their Theory test before applying for the Practical
Test. Full car licence holders need to take a Theory test. When the Practical
Test has been passed you will hold a full unrestricted licence.
