Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) All provisional licence holders ( i.e those displaying 'L' plates ) must take a CBT course before riding a moped or motorcycle on the road. The CBT certificate (DL196) is valid for two years from the date of issue.
Should the certificate
expire, the CBT course must be re-taken unless, of course, you have
passed your full moped or motorcycle test.
You
will have to take a Theory Test before you can book a Practical Test
(L Plate Driving Test). A Theory Test can be booked by ringing 08700

The A Practical Tests
The modular test involves two parts.
Module 1 - is an off road motorcycle manoeuvring test.
Module 2 -
is
an on road riding test.
Both tests can be
taken in either the restricted license (125cc) or direct access
(over21) format. Restricted License
Test to be taken on a 125cc motorcycle, capable of exceeding 62mph. Upon passing the test, the license holder is restricted for two years, to riding a maximum 33bhp or 25kw motorcycle. After that period a full unrestricted license will automatically be issued.
Direct access
Only riders over the age of 21 may take the direct access test. The test must be taken on a larger motorcycle, over 46.6bhp or 35kw.
After passing the test
a full unrestricted licence will be issued. |
